BNSF Dash 9-44CW 4597 leads an NS sister and a two-mile string of empty wells toward the BNSF Richmond Terminal on the BNSF Siveria Lead at the Harbor Way crossing.

Traffic on the Siberia lead has declined in the last year as more of the BNSF container and wellcar trains use the UP’s Cal-P line under trackage rights arrangements.

I’m probably the only resident of Marina Bay who is happy to see one of these show up at the grade crossing!

Norfolk Southern 9945 is also a GE Dash 9. We see these pretty often. Though most BNSF freights have mainly BNSF units, we occasionally see an all- or almost all- NS consist. We also get a scattering of CSX units around here too.

These black and white units look business-like and massive. I have to say I’m happy with the BNSF schemes and I’m not hoping the NS becomes a merger ‘winner’. I miss the SP, but the BNSF and the UP seem right at home in the west.

This view looks northwest along the Siberia Lead. The BNSF Richmond Terminal is about a mile futher along this track.
