N Scale Layout Galleries > Gallery: My Mate Marto's Layout (67)
My good friend Chris Martin (Marto) lives in Shepparton Australia. Marto and I have similar interests when it comes to both prototupe and model railroads. Marto models modern southwest US railroads - BNSF, UP, SP and is building a representative part of BNSF's Arizona transcon in an upstairs room. Click on the picture at left to view the gallery.

Plan drawing
Produced using 3rd Plan It by Steve Cox, March 2004.
Here is a short video of Marto's old N scale layout (1.1MB). The layout was dismantled a few years ago as part of some major house renovations which included a train room upstairs.

The bench work is completed and foam blocks are in place for early scenery visualization.

Checking out the lay of the dry wash with a few Intermountain Tunnel motors, including one in pre-SPSF merger paint. Concrete ties given a shot as well but in the end, Marto went for the creosote look.

Another track level view of the wash. The SP unit looks particularly good along side its Rio Grande sister.
