Little kids and N scale

If you ask me if N scale is okay for little kids I say yes, absolutely. Not unsupervised, of course. Take it slow and remember there is as much social learning going on as learning about running trains. Their hand control is good enough for simple railroading tasks. They have been pretty good at taking turns and keeping the speed below 100mph. They each have enough control to uncouple a few cars with a bamboo skewer.

They get a lot of satisfaction from being able to do even small things like spotting a car or picking up people at the station. Besides, if you take the opposite tack of always saying ‘no’ to requests to operate, they’ll definitely loose interest in your trains. And believe me, as a railfan and modler, you need as many supporters on the home front as you can get!
