One thing I like about Model Railroading - Everything!
![Date Date](/universal/images/transparent.png)
For me, model railroading encompasses an interesting mix of many different skills and knowledge. Aside from needing to have a decent understanding of the prototype, model railroading wraps up planning, carpentry, tracklaying, wiring, buildings, scenery, bridges, tunnels, detection, signals, detailing and painting locomotives and rollingstock, operations, etc, etc,. The list goes on and on. This hobby has it all.

I agree with you, Steve. Which other hobby gives you multidimensional skills? None that I can think of.
As I think about model railroading, it is about history, geography, science (physics espcially), sociology etc. all rolled into one. You can learn about carpentry, electrical and electronics, painting and art, and it never ends. Both left and right brains get the exercise.
